Momma’s lets talk about busyness!! How are we in our busy seasons of life going to seek out and find God’s beauty?
I know most mom’s would agree that we are living in a season of busyness!! Whether you are a mom to toddlers, teens or even adult children life will find a way of making you busy. For me this seems to be my busiest season yet, and to be honest I am not sure when or if it will ever slow down. Let me share with you a little about the season that I am currently in:
I am a stay at home mom to 4 kids ages 4 and under! That’s right 4 of them, I have my oldest Loreina she is 4, my only son Luke is 3, and then I have my 1 year old daughter (15 months) Landry and my 2 month old baby girl Larissa. Not to mention my husband who has recently gone back to college. I guess you could say I am in the busiest season I have been in, in my life, so far!
I know it is not just motherhood that makes us busy, we all have some form of busyness in our lives that we deal with. Whether you are a college student juggling you schoolwork, your walk with God, a job and possibly even dating. Or if you are a momma of any age kiddos, I KNOW you are busy! Or maybe your kids are out of the house that doesn’t necessarily mean you are just coasting… the devil is tricky and will make you busy as a tool to keep you away from the true plans and purpose that God has for you.
SO, how can we find beauty when our lives feel like they are being pulled 1000 different directions? My answer is complicated, yet simple…
The beauty we are looking for is right in front of us… that is to say,
THE BEAUTY IS THE BUSYNESS!!
Think about this example of a beautiful woman in scripture, The Proverbs 31 woman, the one we try to emulate daily, some of her attributes of beauty described are characteristics she has, listen to this:
Proverbs 31:15
“She gets up while it’s still night, she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants.”
Proverbs 31:17-18
“She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.”
These three scriptures tell us that she gets up early before her whole family, they don’t wake up until she’s started cooking bacon! Am I right? She works hard all day long and she’s up so late she doesn’t even turn her lights off! While many times busyness can be seen as a negative thing in our lives that keeps us away from God; I am here to show you that you can find beauty throughout the busyness!
In my current season I am bombarded with busyness from the moment I open my eyes in the morning to the moment they close to go to sleep, even then, I’m up every 2 to 3 hours nursing my newest baby! It would be so easy for me to see my busyness as a burden, but when my busyness is 4 tiny humans that constantly remind me of God’s love, grace, and mercy how can I not see HIS beauty? Daily my kids show me God’s grace by forgiving me when in my opinion I’ve been a bad mother, or I feel as if I’ve let them down!! When it is 9 AM and I’ve already yelled multiple times and possibly even had to spank my son! Each child reminds me in their own way that they truly are as the scripture says, “…a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3 It’s in these moments, after a spankin’ when my child is sad that they run to me for comfort! ME! The person that just disciplined them they also want to comfort them. Just like we are with God, He will discipline us and get us back on the right path of life, but He is also the God of all comfort and we know no matter what we can run to Him and He is waiting with open arms.
Last week our kids were struggling with allergies, and in the midst of my day running around wiping their nose, wiping bottoms, and wiping down the house. My sweet 4-year-old stops me and says, “Momma I can pray that Luke’s boogies go away!” I immediately stopped all the busyness and said your right! Luke came over and Loreina laid her hand on his head, closed her eyes and prayed over her brother! “Dear Jesus, Thank you that you take Luke’s boogies away. No sickness in Jesus name! Amen” Those small moments keep me going each day and are the reminder I need of the beauty in my small children.
In your season, busyness may look like going to appointment after appointment, it may be homework, or work… whatever is that mundane thing(s) you do each and every day that gets boring or routine, THAT thing that busyness is RIGHT where God wants to reveal HIS beauty to you!! Know that as you are right in the thick of your busy season God is the God who sees you! He is El Roi, and just as He saw Hagar in Genesis He sees you in the middle of your busyness and all that you are doing!!
So how do we see the beauty in the busy everyday routine of tasks and chores?
We see it by changing our perspective!
To see God’s beauty, you need to take the busyness and see what He sees in it.
To make sure we have the right outlook about those busy chores that we are tired of doing all we have to do is change our attitude and call it the blessing that it is. Washing dishes for the 1000th time isn’t a burden, it is beautiful! Why? Because having dishes to wash means you have running water, a house, and it means you were able to feed your family that night. Getting up and going to work where you are busy with small tasks all day long, that isn’t a burden it is a blessing that God has allowed you to be there and a way that He is able to provide for your family. When you must put ANOTHER load of laundry away God reminds you that the Proverbs 31 woman says, “she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.” Showing us that the laundry is not the busy task that needs to be checked off the list next, but it is a beautiful reminder that our family is protected and safe for whatever weather is outside, and us Texans know that weather will probably change 5 times in one day. But in all seriousness remember that no matter what the busyness looks like you can find the beauty if you find the right perspective.
One more thing I want to add to help you find beauty in your busyness is to encourage you to make time to be a part of a group of Christian ladies who can help you see the beauty. Personally, I don’t know that I would see the beauty all the time without the constant encouragement, prayers and reminders from the women in LBS or the other momma’s going through this same season of life in MOTTs. If you aren’t a part of a group or tribe that can lift you up, I urge you to reach out and find those women who will be their in your busiest seasons and will seek you out if you start to slip away in any way. No matter what season of life you are in remember when you are in your season of busy, it is beautiful! God has you there for a reason and you will see his beauty through each busy task if you only allow Him to.
